Heather and I went for a little road trip this morning to Paris, Texas! Paris is also home to Evergreen Cemetery where the famous 12 foot Jesus wearing cowboy boots statue is located, belonging to Willet Babcock. The cemetery is HUGE and unfortunately we couldn’t find Jesus Boots. There was also a noon funeral going on and a ton of cars were coming into the cemetery while we’re lurking around trying not to be disrespectful.
No Willet for us, but I found this info on him:
Willet Babcock
Furniture-maker
Willet Babcock was born October 6, 1828 in Ithaca, New York and passed away August 27, 1881 in Paris, Texas.
According to the Handbook of Texas Online, he was a cabinetmaker, and very successful at it, as well. He was also on the board of directors of the Paris and Great Northern Railroad.

As famous as Mr. Babcock may have been during his life, he is now even more renowned for his memorial.
