That never would come to me
Working on a mystery
Going wherever it leads
Running down a dream
- Tom Petty
Well, I’m typing…..which means I survived my first 5K.
Heather and I arrived at Mary Kay headquarters in Addison at 7:30am on Saturday for the MK5K which benefits the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.
Race started at 8:30am so we had time to get some goodies from the sponsor tents and even scored some Mary Kay lip gloss, which I love! So we ran, then walked, then ran, then walked, then ran. Seemed like we were catching up to then passing the same the group of people who were doing the same thing. We finished in the middle of the pack at 32:11. The overall winner finished at 13:13, are you kidding me! We still celebrated…………….with 11am margaritas at Chuy’s!
NEXT RACE:
Mansfield Pecan Festival
5K/1K Fun Run, in honor of Meredith Hatch, whom we lost earlier this year. The 5K run starts at 8:00am at Katherine Rose Memorial Park.
Meredith’s Run for Bikes
8 a.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Katherine Rose Memorial Park
303 N. Walnut Creek Drive
People who want to donate new or gently used bikes and tricycles can drop them off from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 27 during the Pecan Festival. They can also drop them off at the Primrose School of Walnut Creek, 2201 Matlock Road, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 20, 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 4.
Cash donations will be accepted at Frost Bank for the Meredith Hatch Memorial Fund.
The bicycles will be stored until the holidays, when they will be given to Mansfield Cares to be distributed to kids who need them. Some family friends will be going to area stores to ask for bike donations, too, Fleck said.
Dalton is hoping to get 500 bicycles.
“She liked biking,” he said. “I’m sure she would like to spread the word about biking. She also died biking. This is for her.”
Family friends say Meredith Hatch would be happy about the 5K run.
“I think she’d be excited about the outcome of all these bikes for kids,” Kucera said. “If she was doing it, her name would never be attached. That’s the kind of person she was.”
Meredith Hatch raised money for the Education Foundation for years with a fund-raiser at the preschools.
The Hatch family, which includes Dalton’s brothers, Jacob, 9, and Jared, 6, are doing all right, Sherman Hatch said. He says Meredith Hatch would be proud of her son’s efforts.
“They’re doing good, all things considered,” he said. “It’s something to celebrate, something she liked to do.”
